Oakland
Park will rise. On the slopes above Lake Apopka,
the new Oakland
Park is named for the original settlement built here in
1844. It’s a community that promises to give today’s settlers a feeling of
having ties to a colorful past and roots from which to create a meaningful
future in a genuine small town atmosphere.
Oakland
Park
has been planned with painstaking detail to feel like a naturally evolving part
of the area’s history. Narrow streets will curve around mature oaks, naturally
slowing traffic and creating a pedestrian-friendly community. Homes of character
and individuality will seem to have been in a family for generations, their
architectural styles mirroring those of historic homes in neighboring Oakland and Winter
Garden.
Oakland
Park
has been carefully laid out to encourage people to interact socially, to create
more quickly the comfortable network of relationships evident in mature
communities. Most homes will feature front porches fairly near the sidewalks,
making neighborly conversation a naturally occurring part of life.
The 22-mile West Orange Trail runs
through the middle of Oakland
Park, a great trail for walking, biking, or hiking.
Oakland Park is also close to three neighboring
schools and downtown Orlando and Winter Garden. Neighborhood
amenities will include the Union Club and McKinnon Square, a
rural town center with a community square, neighborhood shops, general store,
and a postal facility.
Castle
& Cooke Homes in Oakland
Park will be Florida Designated Green Homes with
authentic architecture and design. Green homes are energy and water efficient
and incorporate sustainable features that enhance the built environment and the
quality of life for homeowners. Green home building integrates the industry’s
best practices and eco-friendly materials to create healthy, resource-efficient

Star® program, the US Department of Energy Building America program and Progress
Energy’s Home Advantage program.
Oakland
Park
is also recognized as a Castle & Cooke green community. It is one of only
six Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) certified Green communities in the
state of Florida and the FIRST and ONLY in
Central Florida. As a FGBC certified Green community,
Oakland Park has
multiple ecological and sustainable features which markedly reduce environmental
impact in comparison to developments built to minimum state and local
regulations. Green communities aid in protecting ecosystems and conserving
natural resources, such as Oakland Park’s
restoration of Lake Brim and Lake Apopka shorelines. Oakland Park also boasts a
green circulation system, which promotes pedestrian friendly connectivity
through side walks, trails, street trees, and minimal distance between
destinations. All homes in Oakland
Park are within 1/8 mile of a neighborhood park. As a
green certified community, Castle & Cooke has Green Utilities Practices
which allow for minimal disturbance to the environment and help to conserve
resources. Neighborhood amenities include parks, walking paths, and trails that
reduce environmental impact. All homes in Oakland Park will be green certified, with
small lots, rear entry garages with alleys, and front porches. Castle &
Cooke also hopes to enlighten residents about the benefits of green living by
offering educational information in their sales center and on the web.
